BIOGRAPHY
Molly Bertheaud (Canadian/American, b.1997) is an interdisciplinary artist who creates contemporary mythologies through the integration of craft techniques with modern technology. She has a background in industrial knitting, which she learned from her mother growing up. She holds a BFA from Emily Carr University and is currently pursuing an MFA at Concordia University.

Through her carnivalesque compositions, Molly presents hybrid creatures and bird-women in “nature” spaces, exploring biological symbolism and the visceral fragility of creation. Her work explores the themes of science fiction, mythology, ecology, mortality, and femininity, particularly through the role of women and mothers, and the fragile perishability of textiles and, therefore, of history.

Her practice highlights the tensions between our lofty ideals and the limitations of our biological reality, challenging viewers to question how we can pursue our desires in a world of limited resources. Her work invites us to confront our relationship with nature and consider a more honest view of ourselves, much like a scientist examining a crane.

Biographie
